Spotlight

A big thank you to all schools that are sharing their curriculum work on social media. We really enjoy seeing how much the children are enjoying their learning.
Thank you to Lenthall Infant and Nursery, James Brindley CPS, Bridgewater Primary, St Stephen’s CPS, Askern Moss Road Academy, Fairfield Primary and Park Road Academy to name just a few – there are lots more and we’re very grateful.
Please continue to tweet and don’t forget to tag us @FocusEd_LCC or use the hashtag #learningchallengecurriculum or #LCC so we don’t miss any.

Special Thanks goes to St Thomas CE Primary in Blackburn who have been working with Clive Davies on history knowledge with a heavy focus on oracy. They kindly allowed us to put this video of children in their school talking about the Industrial Revolution, on our website.
Future Plans

Our #PrimaryHistorybites will be available in Audio Book format also. Watch out for these coming soon! We are currently working on Golden Threads in Science. We have recently updated our disciplinary knowledge progressions across subjects and for mixed age planning, but we’ve started thinking about ways we can help support your staff with making the disciplinary aspect more straightforward for your children. Watch this space for further updates on this! We are currently working on providing more detailed units of learning for both Design Technology and Art & Design. We will be adding the full scheme of work for PSHCE onto the Learning Challenge website in the coming months and this will be available to those schools that choose to subscribe for another year or more.

TEACHER PLANNING RESOURCES AVAILABLE
We understand not all schools want to subscribe to an annual plan. We have listened to what individual teachers want and are in the process of putting all of our units in our shop so these can be bought individually. Teachers told us they often just need the retrieval activity or a knowledge organiser for a unit or a particular lesson, not the whole unit. These are now available to buy for History and Geography with Science coming soon!

Questions for Leaders
The framework for inspection recognises the importance of school leaders ‘leading the learning’ and by definition ‘leading the curriculum’. This does not necessarily mean that headteachers have to be writing the curriculum but it is important they know its contents and also why the decisions taken were made. The process of managing curricular change requires careful planning and an acceptance that it will take time to embed. The most successful schools often pilot elements of change with a few people in order to iron out potential problems and develop a small team of ambassadors who can work with colleagues. It is important that great schools are always evaluating and revising their curriculum.
